We are a Title I public elementary school in a large urban community in Missouri, the Show Me State.
Our Kindergarten classroom is composed of all boys.
Our school is comprised of gender-specific classrooms to maximize gender based learning and teaching strategies. One of the most prominent themes in teaching strategies for boys is to get them up & away from their desks while learning. We focus on doing this during Guided Reading/Center Rotation. They look forward to this time of our day very much but almost always have some sort of disagreement when it comes to finding space at our Guided Learning Center with our T.A. due to the small work space available. We need help in solving this to make their entire daily Guided Reading/Center Rotation experience as engaging as possible and not a "center" of frustration!
My Project
We are so fortunate to have a Teacher Aide during our Guided Reading and Center Time this year! At this point, our Kindergartners have our Center rotation routine mastered. Our students are struggling when they rotate to their Guided Learning Center with our T.A.; however, as we are currently using a tiny Kindergarten table/desk as their work space during that Center. This type of table was designed to host a maximum of two students at one time and we are now crowding 4 to 5 students around the table each rotation along with our T.A. We really need a proper small group table to allow everyone personal learning space while at this Center and a designated space for our T.A. to lead the learning activities to assure maximum learning.
We're in the Show-Me State and we're challenging you to show us you will invest in our kids to help them strengthen their Language Arts Skills by giving them a table providing adequate work space during critical Guided Learning Center time.
