My students are an amazing group of caring, funny, and kind 6-year-olds. They are a diverse group; many students having special needs and most are English language learners. They all come from very different home environments. Some of my students are lucky enough to live with their parents and siblings, while others may live with their grandparents or other guardians while their parents are out of state for work.
Many of my students tend to lack resources, experience, and exposure from home, so it is important for me to provide them with experiences that are both academic and fun.
My Project
Each year first graders study restaurants; from the workers to the ins and outs of how a restaurant is run. For our final project, we will open and operate our very own restaurant!
This will be one of the most fun experiences my students will ever have in school!
Each student will have a job in our restaurant; there will be chefs, wait staff, hosts, cashiers and more. Everything you can find in a real restaurant we are trying to bring into our classroom. To make our restaurant even more professional we decided it would be great to have a uniform for our class to wear. We will have the students design a logo and will use the printable and regular vinyl, as well as a Cricut Bright Pad to create the decals. I will then iron them on t-shirts with the help of the Cricut Easy Press. Not to mention, we will create a few extras that we can sell to our customers as we continue to teach and foster financial literacy concepts in our classroom. These funds and those from our restaurant are then put toward an end of the year celebration for our class!
