My students need books that show people of difference races, abilities, backgrounds, and colors. I hope these books will serve as an example of loving others despite and because of their differences.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
A typical day in my classroom includes Reader's & Writer's Workshop. After a mini lesson, my students will often read and write independently while I conference or pull small groups. For independent reading times my students have a book baggie with about 10 leveled books inside. My classroom library must be large and varied in order to keep students engaged. We also look at books during writers workshop because we study great authors and their crafts.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds, races, countries, and financial means.
My students are imaginative, curious, inquisitive, and hard working. I want to foster their love of learning by giving them experiences, resources, and opportunities they may not receive otherwise. I want my classroom to be a place for them to explore, feel safe, question, converse, learn, and grow. Please help me fill my classroom with resources that will make this possible!

My classroom is quite the melting pot and I want students to learn to appreciate everyone for who they are.
I want to help my students prepare to live, learn, and work in communities that will become increasingly diverse.
The child who learns to be open to differences will have more opportunities in business, education, and many other aspects of life. In second grade we study the contributions and efforts of Martin Luther King Jr. He dreamed of a world more tolerant than the one he lived in. I hope to inspire this same spirit in my students through these new books. Thank you for your support!
