Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Learning with the touch of your fingertips, literally! As a kindergarten teacher, I have the opportunity to open students' eyes to the world of learning and help them find joy in it. Times are changing and teachers, like me, are finding that students sometimes struggle with our methods.
My class consists of 20 open-minded, eager students who attend a charter school that encourages academic as well as character education.
We value the whole student and provide opportunities for students to learn in a innovative and responsive environment. Our school provides an extended day and extended year allowing students and teachers the opportunity for more learning. Starting in Kindergarten, students are provided with technology education once a week. Students are able to access laptops to learn about typing, navigating websites and learning about academic material through technology. My students respond very well to technology and it provides me with a chance to see different ways to assess learning and engage students.
My Project
There are two main reasons I am asking for an IPAD for my students. The first is that I will be able to access books, lectures, videos, music, and applications that can enhance my teaching and provide students with resources for their learning. The second reason I am asking for the IPAD is because of how well students have responded to technology lessons. I know that the IPAD will provide students with the opportunity to learn about everything from math to geography to phonics. There are literally hundreds of applications that are on the apple website that are designed for education. During our phonics and math workshops, students will be able to participate in independent or small group activities using the IPAD. This easy to use device will enhance student learning and provide an alternative way of learning.
The IPAD that I am requesting for our class will not only provide immediate opportunities but will continually provide students with another resource for learning.
Because Apple is so innovative, new applications for the IPAD are created daily and I know that we will continue to find useful apps for our class. My students' parents also use their own personal Apple devices to help their students with academics such as learning sight words or learning about addition and subtraction.
