My students need opportunities to collaborate, problem solve, and be creative while using technology in a meaningful way. A class set of Spheros would allow students to learn how to code in a fun, creative way!
We are a K-5 school located in a high poverty suburban area, with many of our families experiencing multi-generational poverty. As a Title I school, 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. However, 80% of our students are economically disadvantaged. To help support our students on the weekend, we send home approximately 80 food backpack. We also supplement the backpacks with fresh eggs from our chicken coop and vegetables from our school garden.
Our school has worked hard to increase its academic focus while meeting the needs of the whole child.
We want to provide meaningful learning experiences that integrate technology throughout our students school day. Our project based learning opportunities have been embraced by our students, parents, and teachers. Our students look forward to technology rich projects, and these are opportunities they would normally not be able to experience if not provided at school.
My Project
Synthesize: to combine (a number of things) into a coherent whole. Funding this project would allow our students the opportunity to connect their learning across multiple disciplines while integrating technology.
Our students need opportunities to collaborate, communicate, think critically, and be creative.
A class set of Spheros would provide multiple grade levels with opportunities to integrate technology in various ways during the school day. The Spheros would be located in our makerspace area that is utilized by our kindergarten through fifth grade students. Students will be given challenges that they will complete as teams. Using the engineering design process, students will be able to plan, implement, and revise their work to complete technology rich academic challenges. Most of our students do not have access to technology at home, so we try to provide technology rich activities that complement the core academic subjects. These items will also be used during our free after school programs provided to our students.
