My school is wonderfully diverse with roughly equal numbers of Hispanic, Native American, and white students. Many come from broken homes and struggling families, which is showcased by our 100% free/reduced lunch status. Oregon has one of the lowest graduation rates in the country, and my high school is among the lowest in Oregon.
Many students have lived here their whole life and never had the opportunity to travel.
They are full of questions and curiosity. They are energetic, respectful, and funny - but also real, gritty, and exposed to life's difficulties. They have a natural appetite for music, and are excited to be part of something bigger than themselves through band and choir. Their lives are full of needs and challenges, but they show amazing courage in the battles they face every day and the obstacles they overcome.
My students are people full of potential, with futures full of possibility!
My Project
The Symphonic Band is working toward a performance at the Heritage Music Festival in San Diego. The band will perform several pieces of music at this competitive event for a panel of adjudicators, who will rate and rank them based on their ability. In addition to receiving excellent feedback, working with exceptional clinicians, and the possibility of a trophy, students will get to enjoy the fun of southern California!
Many students will not be able to attend without your help.
The band needs every player to do our very best - but it won't happen without you! Students will be working hard to fund raise these next few months, in addition to their other school activities and keeping their grades up so they can be eligible for the trip. Please consider a donation to make this experience possible for these deserving students! Your generous contribution will go toward our trip's first required installment.
