Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 9th grade language arts and 11th grade intensive reading to the lowest performing students at my school. They may not be the highest performers, but they are hardworking, ambitious, and lovable students who are eager to learn. My school is a Title 1 school because the majority of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Many of my students are immigrant children who have had to work hard to acquire English language skills.
My students are not expected to succeed, but I work tirelessly to create innovative ways to assure that they do succeed.
Every milestone they reach and conquer gets them one step closer to their future goals and I am and will do everything in my power to help them get there.
My Project
Peer interaction and opportunities for group work are essential for student understanding of any subject in school. But when it comes to reading and writing, peer review and interaction can mean whole score differences on not only in class instructions, but on statewide assessments. Being able to sit comfortably with their peers to peer edit their writing or analyze and synthesize a written text, students gain another level of understanding that they may not always receive just from teacher instruction and the Kors Swivel Chairs are optimal to allow for flexible seating around the classroom that allow students to work together over long periods of time.
The Kors Swivel Chairs also allow students who need flexible seating in order to better focus in class a chance at optimal learning conditions.
For many students, a chance to just move around in their seats allows them to calm down and focus on the teacher speaking or on the task at hand. Stationary desks impede the student from moving much because of their size and stationary state and find it difficult to sit still in said desk resulting in less attention being paid to the lesson at hand and more attention on trying to still an urge that most of the time is an unconscious act. These Kors Swivel Chairs could make an immense difference in the learning outcomes of many students.
