Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in an urban school district where the students are comprised of different backgrounds, nationalities, and languages. Some of my students are struggling with this return to the classroom after being home for so many months. This swing will assist with sensory input and can help to soothe and provide opportunities to teach 1 to 1 while in the swing.
My Pre K 3 and 4 population consists of children with developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorders.
This swing, believe it or not, will increase opportunities for play, turn-taking, social skills development, and increased communication skills. They are the cutest, sweetest little faces!
My Project
Utilizing a swing has shown success for students with sensory processing disorders. Swinging will let my students neutralize the disruptions that are caused by their vestibular system. The swing helps with balance, righting reactions, and motor skills in many different ways.
I feel strongly my students with Autism would benefit greatly.
Studies have shown that swinging can help to organize their bodies and make them more accessible to learning. Each one of my students would benefit from the use of the swing in some way!
