Bring smiles to my student's faces by giving them the opportunity to have their own adaptive swing right outside their room. Although my student's are not physically able to run and go on that regular swing they can have the same experience on this adaptive swing.
I teach a preschool 'multiple disabilities orthopedic' (MDO) class on a regular education campus.
My class currently consists of 5 students but more are on the way. This class has just recently opened and will have up to 8 moderate to severe special needs students. My students enjoy coming to school everyday and learning about their world and how to participate in it.
My Project
Any student with special needs and physical disabilities still enjoys doing the same activities that a typical child would. Having and adaptive swing on the patio will give them that opportunity to enjoy this vestibular activity. This vestibular input will also help increase their ability to organize their behavior and self regulate to prepare them for functional tasks. They will be safe in a special seat with straps to keep them secure.
My student's don't get to experience the simple pleasures that we often take for granted.
Your support of this project of having adaptive swings in our school yard will not only bring smiles to my students but a vestibular activity for our students to enjoy on a daily basis.
