My Students

Batting skills are a fundamental skill in the great game of baseball. As students become more competent in batting they enjoy the game and will keep playing throughout their lifetime.

We are located in the heart of an ethnically, culturally, and socio-economically diverse rural community.

The school is made up of 25 subgroups with the majority of students receiving free or reduced lunch. Ongoing research shows the majority of students failed last year to meet National Norms in terms of skill competency for sport activities.

My Project

Student interest in baseball and softball was raised when several area teams made it to the state and national age group world series. Many of our students play on these teams and many more are interested in learning how to play. In addition, the students who are not on area teams did extremely poorly on the pitch, run and hit competition I hosted at the school. As we are in a severe budget crunch right now, the district has not allocated any money for equipment and supplies.

We need 6 batting tees so that the students have the necessary equipment to play the game of baseball.

Baseball is a traditional game to growing up in America. The history, traditions and skills involved have been a big part of many peoples lives. The interest generated by the baseball unit will hopefully get students away from a sedentary, video game oriented life that too many of them find themselves in.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
