Swim Cap Brains for AP Psychology!

My Students

My students are a rainbow of cultural and socioeconomic diversity in a rich urban environment. They are both artistically and academically motivated in their learning as they attend an arts/performing arts high school in which they have specific majors of study in the arts. They are also college-oriented and choose rigorous preparatory coursework such as College Board-level Advanced Placement classes.

They also enjoy expressing their knowledge and their art through classroom discussions and debates, group work, and hands-on experiments and projects.

My Project

Studies show that incorporating multiple sensory stimuli while learning creates more memory retrieval cues to the course content. Students will draw diagrams of the structures of the brain on swim caps in order to review and understand the terms and concepts in the Biological Bases of Behavior unit of AP Psychology. This unit is a large portion of their AP Psychology College Board exam in May. Students will incorporate visual, tactile, and auditory memory retrieval cues as they create these review hats.

Students will not only obtain a new understanding and deeper appreciation of themselves, but have loads of fun doing so!

Students can then wear their new "thinking caps" and inspire others to be inquisitive about AP Psychology as they walk down the hall!
