Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The FIRST Robotics Competition is the varsity sport for the mind. Students are given an eight-week period where they are given a real-world problem to solve and tasked with coming up with an innovative solution. They have to strategize about the most efficient and effective way to score the game pieces and then determine which type of robot they want to build. We spend the next eight weeks designing, fabricating, programming, and practicing with our five-foot, 120 lb robot.

In CHARGED UP presented by Haas, the Mechanical Mustangs will prepare for a challenge that is fully charged to inspire our students to see the potential of energy storage in a new light; this season we need to pick up playing elements (safety cones), place them on the energy grid, and at the end balance three robots on the charging station, which is similar to a see-saw.

We are currently designing our robot and have determined that we want to build a driving system called swerve. Swerve drive allows our robot to drive forwards and backward but then rotate the wheel to drive left and right. This allows for maximum agility throughout the game. We would also like the Falcon motor and motor controllers because they are an all-in-one unit and we tested them during the 21-22 season/fall pre-season and deem them to be both reliable and easier to work with.

Our varsity competition team is comprised of 24 students, grades nine through twelve, who will compete with other teams from around New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania, and Delaware district (FIRST Mid-Atlantic). Students will be part of the drive team, pit crew, scouting squad, and judging presenters. Each of our 24 students has a specific job in order to make sure our team performs to our maximum potential.
