Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach around 160 eighth-graders at a Title I school on the eastern side of San Antonio, Texas, where the majority of our students come from low-income families. We have a very diverse group of students who are eager to learn. One hundred percent of our students also qualify for a free lunch. Many cannot afford even basic supplies, so we try to provide everything we are able to for the students that are needed, along with extra goodies as rewards. I teach a majority of Hispanic and African American students, a large percentage of English language learners, and special education students.
All our students are bright, capable young people who can achieve everything they set out to do.
Our school strives to help them with all their goals. The teachers at my school work together to give our students the best educational opportunities possible. Our school is known as the "Pride of the East Side" and they are the mighty cougars.
My Project
My two different subjects this year are both tested at the end of the year. Because our US History classes are a bit difficult and quite fast paced, we go through thorough reviews every 3 weeks to review our units to ensure mastery over the eras. My students' absolute favorite thing is to play review games. We have a few different games we play and we always have teams and points.

I would love to continue to be able to provide students who have studied up and worked so hard treats for their amazing jobs on the review. And the best thing is that the winners are usually different every single unit, so everyone gets a chance to get the candies! They are always so excited to receive their favorite candies.
