Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Welcome to our school! We are a Title I elementary school in a low-income urban neighborhood, educating students from Kindergarten through 5th Grade. Eighty-six percent of our students receive free or reduced rate lunch, and 100% receive free breakfast daily.
Our children may not have much, but they are kind, inquisitive, and love to learn.
The school is the heart of the community, and our library is the heart of the school. As the librarian, I do my best to fill my students' lives with quality books, the joy of reading, and tools for learning.
My Project
I love working with our students. We have so much fun together learning how to access information, how to use it, and how books can enrich our lives with facts and stories. When the kids are gone, I turn to the other half of my job, developing and maintaining our collection. You might be surprised at how many materials we go through each year! These are supplies beyond the basics that our school office can provide for us.
We need labels, magnets, and business cards to keep our library humming along at top efficiency.
We use labels daily for many functions, ranging from barcoding books to sticker reminders to return books. Magnets hold our announcements and signs securely to our outside metal doors. Business cards make everything from library cards to nametags to flashcards.
