Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are special because we are more than a class - we're a family! Our classroom community is unique because we are committed to supporting each other, appreciating diverse perspectives, and engaging in creative problem solving.
My students are English Learners in third and fourth grade, who are getting to know themselves as learners as I support them by personalizing their learning experiences to help them meet their academic and language goals.
The community we create together makes for engaging learning experiences and a supportive learning environment in which students feel comfortable taking risks and putting their imaginations to work. Individually, we are smart, but together, we are brilliant!
My Project
The goal of my selections is to provide my students with new seating choices so they can sit where they feel most comfortable, whether they prefer to sit on the floor or on a mobile seat with wheels! The students love to sit all around the room, so the chairs I have asked for will bring them comfort, or allow them to get their wiggles out. The tractor stools will give students the mobility to move their seats where they wish around the room or in the hallway so they can work together. I also want my students to be able to take full advantage of the technology in our classroom. We are fortunate enough to have one-to-one Chromebooks, but they lack quality sound and are difficult to hear when multiple students are working. Headphones would help improve their focus tremendously so they don't have to worry about disturbing others. The lap desks will keep our technology in good condition while students work on the floor. The rocking chair will provide a comfy seat for reading in our library nook or as an author's chair where students can sit to read their writing to the class.
I am excited to be participating in the LEAP Personalized Learning Challenge: This means I am committed to working with my students to help them feel comfortable and supported in every sense possible so they can do their best learning!
Students are empowered to better understand their needs, strengths, interests and approaches to learning. I have found that when students are given ownership over their own learning they become more likely to advocate themselves and collaborate with their peers to reach their goals. Having flexible seating options and headphones would greatly enhance our personalized learning efforts!
