My kindergarten class has 14 ambitious, energetic learners who work hard, play hard, and celebrate each other's successes- big and small! They love building, experimenting, and creating- the messier, the better! Their favorite time of day is Play To Learn- a time to choose activities that interest them, while developing social skills. During Play To Learn time, my students practice sharing and taking turns, self-regulation, and using problem-solving words. They develop cognitive, linguistic and social-emotional skills through logical reasoning and creative exploration. They are excited to use their imaginations to pretend and create with their friends!
My Project
Flexible seating helps little learners make the most of their work time. During independent work time, students choose a space and a seat that works best for them. Currently, my kindergarten students can choose to work at the following locations: at a traditional table with a chair or stability ball, on a bench in the reading corner, or on the floor with a cushion. Keeping them comfortable helps motivate learning!
When students get to choose their work space, they are more comfortable and engaged and they accomplish more.
The flexible seating alternatives I have selected will expand work space options for independent learning and promote good self-regulation choices. The scoop seats and folding floor seats will provide excellent options for comfortable, well-defined floor seating. They are lightweight for easy mobility, and they stack or fold for convenient storage. The Wobble seats will give another option for table seating, while also providing a safe way to get some wiggles out while working.
By providing several seating options, my students will each discover their personal preference and be free to focus on learning.
