Help me give my students comfortable, practical seating for increased focus and movement activities in music class. "CanDo Donut Exercise Balls," are easily moved and stored. They also help students combat restlessness for increased focus and fun!
Every child deserves an equitable, high-quality education. As a Title I school, our resources are limited. However, my kids are innately capable musicians, who will benefit from additional resources. They are 100% hands-on learners. They love interacting, playing instruments, and movement activities. Most of them are an energetic bunch and have difficulty sitting still all day. The shape of our room makes it difficult to move chairs around to give us enough space for movement games. Students restlessly wiggle on squeaky metal chairs during instructional time. We currently sit together on a hard tile floor, which is especially uncomfortable for some of my older elementary students.
Students enjoy about 40 minutes of music once every 8 school days, so every minute of their experience should be an efficient, enriching experience.
In order to accommodate their needs, our students will greatly benefit from alternative seating. Donut-shaped exercise balls will allow students to sit comfortably on the floor. These comfortable seats are great for K-5 students, and they will not have to take time to rearrange their metal chairs. The "exercise donuts" are easily arranged, and they will economize class time and help maximize our music-making!
Now more than ever, it is imperative that students are able to release their energy and easily interact with one another. Before each music class, I will set up CanDo Donut Exercise balls at each student's designated spot. When students are assigned any partner or group work, they can easily move these exercise balls without emitting distracting noises. They are easily stored too. When we play energetic circle games and dance, the exercise balls free up significant space. Space is a valuable commodity and our class, and my students will appreciate an open environment, conducive to creativity.
There is something about sitting low to the ground that helps my students feel connected in our class community.
Exercise balls are a great alternative to metal chairs and enable us to all sit close to the ground together. However, their current chairs are not easy to move, and naturally create barriers to social interaction. These exercise donuts will allow students to comfortably sit low to the ground, and I am confident my students will appreciate the alternative to either sitting on a tile floor or fighting to feel comfortable in a metal chair. When my students are comfortable, they feel welcomed and ready to make music!
