This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students range from ages fourteen to nineteen years of age and are severely multiply impaired. Many of my students come from single-parent homes and receive free or reduced-price lunch.
They are extremely happy to come to school every day and despite their disabilities, maintain a positive outlook on life.
My students are motivated to learn and participate throughout the school day. My higher functioning students love to assist their peers with classroom activities which in turn helps to build their self esteem.
My Project
Our first basketball game begins this November and nothing would make these sweet and deserving students happier than a new pair of sweet kicks to accompany their basketball brand new school jerseys! The stress of paying for the proper shoes for these students will become a major barrier for families. This project will not only purchase students new basketball shoes, but also provide students to learn from positive adults, build leadership skills on and off the court, engage in positive peer interactions, become active and develop more effective ways to cope with and express negative emotions. Our main goal is to supply every player with shoes so there are no limits to students participating. Through this program, students will gain a sense of belonging that will have a direct impact on student achievement.
