My students need organizers for supplies, AC/DC adapters, and cardboard scissors to help make our program more sustainable. We want our program to continue to impact students’ education and lives for many years.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Imagine hundreds of students from all over the world. Many are here as immigrants or refugees so they speak many languages and have different cultural experiences. Our students may be diverse, but they all share a love of project based learning. Poverty limits many opportunities outside of school, but our school strives to provide relevant experiences for our students in our after-school program with quality STEM and STEAM activities. Our students are the future engineers and problem-solvers. They are excited to take on the future. Right now they are full of dreams and hope. We want to build on their hopes and give them the tools to make their dreams come true.
My Project
An effective program looks at ways to make it sustainable and affordable so it can continue for many years. STEM programs can get expensive due to the cost of consumable materials.
Choosing materials that ensure sustainability is one of the most important parts of any STEM or Makerspace program.
The Art Satchels will enable teachers to provide an assortment of materials for students to use while also setting constraints on amounts available. Batteries can increase costs for programs quickly and the items then go unused. The AC/DC adapters will keep our WeDo 2.0 robots charged and ready to code. Cardboard is plentiful and usually free so we want students to be able to use it as much as possible. However, it is difficult to cut with regular scissors; the Canary cardboard scissors will make that chore easier.
