My students come from very diverse backgrounds. We are close to Military bases and a few of my students' families serve in the armed forces. They are eager to learn and have an amazing amount of energy. I have to keep them moving in order to maintain their attention. My students need hands on lessons.
I want my students to grow and be prepared for the 21st century real world.
They live in a rural area and many have not been outside the small town. We are a Title One school with more than half of the students on free or reduced lunch. They inspire me to jump up every morning and start a new day of learning no matter what obstacles life will bring that day.
My Project
Students will use the iPads and protective cases requested to learn about the life cycle of plants and animals. Students will watch interactive videos and play games using the app Brain Pop. I will read aloud the book Seed to Plant. After reading the students will discuss and add visuals to their digital portfolio on See Saw.
Students will create a digital poster showing their understanding of their role on the environment.
Students progress of this unit will be documented throughout using the app See Saw. Artifacts that students share will be discussed together as a class. Students will label and write descriptions about the stages of development of plant species. This is important because I want my students to know that trees don't grow overnight, it is a long process. Students will be introduced to sustainability.
The technology requested will provide my students the opportunity to develop their 21st century skills. Students will plan, experiment, and observe as seeds grow in a window garden.
