My Students

My target students are in the 7th & 8th grade at a Title I, school with a very high population of students who qualify for free or reduced price lunch. They are incredibly bright and eager to learn. They love working on inquiry-driven projects that require them to work together and apply twenty-first century skills. They also embrace the use of technology. This project will allow students from varied economic backgrounds to work collaboratively with the teacher to learn computer science skills that will prepare them for the workforce they will enter.

My Project

My students will be able to use the laptop computer at school, but they will also be able to check it out over night so they can work at home. They will specifically be using it to access an incredible interactive financial planning software called "Money Island." This amazing program is offered by local bank, and though free to use, requires the technology to access it. The laptop will give my students that access to be able to have fun learning about about opening and maintaining banking accounts, saving, credit, and even planning for the distant future like college and retirement, even the pitfalls of online transactions; just to mention a few of the critical economic principals taught. I am sure you see that it is vital that every student gets this information as soon as possible.
