My Students
My middle school students are amazing! They are energetic, creative, and social. I currently teach in a seventh grade resource room. I had many of these students last year as sixth graders, and it's been exciting to see them grow as both students and young adults.
My middle schoolers have reading levels ranging from third grade to high school level. I try to instill a love of reading while trying to find best-fit books for my variety of reading levels.
My Project
Many of my students are reluctant readers. Reading has never been enjoyable for many of my seventh graders, primarily because reading is difficult for them. Instead of guessing what my students would be interested in reading, I had each of them make a list of what they would like to see in our classroom library. The results were interesting and very diverse. Some enjoy certain genres, some certain authors, and some would like to see more graphic novels in our selection.
Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body - Joseph Addison.
Finding enjoyable books for all my students and learning to love reading is the ultimate goal!
