My second grade students often do not have money for simple school supplies like paper and pencils. Our classroom lacks up-to-date, accessible math materials. We are not a Title I school, but we are deemed high poverty. My 30 students are handicapped because our school lacks resources to help them.
All my students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch.
My classroom is multicultural and diverse. Eight of my students are in an English Language Learner program, nine are in resource and special education, and three are in Indian Education support classes. Many of my students are the children of deployed military personnel.
I teach students who are struggling with math concepts, and I need help motivating them to learn about financial literacy and math. They are struggling, but they are trying very hard to learn because they want to be successful.
My Project
My students rarely handle money. They lack a basic math vocabulary. They suffer from innumeracy. This needs to change. With a Cricut machine and supplies, they can have need hands-on practice creating classroom posters and graphics that will develop their financial literacy, vocabulary and math skills.
Math and financial literacy are so very important, and I want to establish a math-friendly classroom where my students are surrounded by math and finance.
My second graders will use the materials from this project to practice and expand their math skills. Our classroom will come alive with posters created by my kids.
I know that my students will be motivated to learn math and will recognize the importance of math concepts when they share their posters and graphics. All we need is a Cricut machine and some supplies to make our room math-friendly.
This hands-on financial literacy project deserves your support. Please help my students learn about financial literacy and math, and money. You have a chance to make a big difference in the lives of my students.
