Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is nestled in rural New Mexico. Students come from a wide-range of backgrounds with several common aspects. These include the need for building quality relationships with their educators, the need for routines in their daily academic lives, the need to understand that their dreams can come true, and the need to be involved. They also deserve to be rewarded for their positive behavior, good decision making, and academic successes. Recognizing the positive behavior and accomplishments my students achieve is one of the many daily joys in my job. Knowing that my students are learning about their full potential and how to persevere to reach their goals is also rewarding.

Students need positive associations with achievement.

This helps them to do their best, and to follow the old adage of “if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” Giving up is not a viable option for my students, but they need to see that they can succeed.

My Project

Knowing that a teacher is recognizing the positive effort that students are making in their academic lives, builds lasting relationships between the teacher and their students. This bonding between teacher and students is essential to having high productive learning, successful student perseverance, and creating a positive and safe classroom environment.

Academic rewards will be year long recognitions for the whole student body for their achievements (improvements, choices, and grades).

The academic reward cards will be created using cardstock and laminated using the thermal lamination machine and laminating pouches. The lamination will ensure that the cards will last for a whole nine-week period. We will highlight growth in all aspects of school life and in turn create a positive school environment promoting student successes and the importance of graduation.

We will revamp our Commit to Graduate campaign throughout the school by highlighting high school graduation and career/technical school/college graduations as well. We will also revive our Rock Star of the Month program to include a Rock Star Cafe in the cafeteria. The Rock Star Cafe would be a region of the cafeteria decorated with a rock star motif for eligible students to sit in during lunch as part of our recognition program. The gift cards from Teachers Pay Teachers would purchase clip art, decorations, posters, blank cards/awards/certificates (educational resources) to highlight these programs.
