My students love to collaborate in groups, question each other's opinions, desire autonomy, but also are willing to ask for help. I love to see it when they become proficient in a skill or standard in which they have struggled with or better yet when a student finally finds a standard that they struggle with and don't know how to navigate. It provides an opportunity to teach how to be more successful with new strategies. Many students this past year hated the idea of reading, but we just read more and they loved it more. One student even told me that she hated me because I got her to love reading. I told her she can hate me every day. Another loves to roll her eyes at me and has since seventh grade, but it is because she loves me and rolling of eyes is giving me sweet kisses. I wouldn't give up the type of students I teach, because they have so much potential for finding a new love for learning.
My Project
Middle school students hate to sit in boring, brown desks while researching, interacting, and problem-solving. The lap desk will allow my students to stretch out their legs while surfing the web or collaborating with other group members.
The Surfing Portable Lap Desk will enhance my Personalized Learning classroom to another level.
Flexible seating is one of many ways to differentiate and decrease anxiety in class. I have access to Chromebooks consistently and these lap desks will increase the excitement and willingness to complete the work at hand.
