I am a teacher in a low-income area with a high English language learner student population. My students are often faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom whether it's health or academic barriers. A lot of my students come from families who are immigrants from another country, who are financially unstable, and are working multiple jobs to make ends meet. Since my students spend a lot of time in the classroom. I want to teach them how to use technology to access their curriculum. We currently don't have enough tablets for all our students. I am looking for resources to provide my students with hands-on technology experiences so that they can enhance their learning.
My students are receiving special education services to help them succeed in many ways and to provide them with equal opportunities to receive the same education like any typically developing child.
My Project
My students are very receptive and learn more effectively with technology. I want to increase their passion to learn by teaching them how to use technology to create digital stories about their culture and the story of their family's life and journey in the United States. This requested Microsoft Surface Pro will give my students hands-on technology experiences so that they learn beyond just writing on the usual paper and pencil. By encouraging our students to learn using technological skills, I'll keep my students engaged. They'll be motivated to see their most creative ideas come to life through technology and digital communication.
Digital stories are most effective for learning important technological skills that become embedded in a language-rich curriculum that provides varied and abundant opportunities for learners to acquire new vocabulary and structures.
Using the Surface Pro Pen, they can draw their stories using the animation software on the surface pro. My students will write a complete narrative using drawing and animations to create digital stories of their families and the life they lived coming to America and educate their classmates about the hardships and struggles that their families have been through to come to America to have a better life.
