Help me give my students a surface laptop. This laptop will be given to a student whose mobility it greatly impacted due to a condition called Pompe Disease.
My students are curious, smart, and dedicated. Every day, they come to class prepared to participate and eager to engage in rigorous academic learning. My students come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds, with over 50% of my students receiving free lunch. The students who attend my school speak a number of different languages including Arabic, Amharic, Tagalog, and Spanish. Many of my students are English Language Learners. I serve 25 students in my classroom. Of these 25 students, half are English language learners.
My Project
The item that I am requesting is a surface laptop that will be used as a secondary device for a student who mobility is greatly impacted by a condition called Pompe Disease. This student currently has an iPad that he used to support his learning, but this iPad also serves as a talking device which allows him to communicate with others. With distance learning, having to navigate multiple applications on one device is impeding on his ability to access and learn virtual.
By providing my student with a surface laptop, he will able access and to navigate learning with greater independence.
With the added device, he will be able to use the Surface to connect to class meetings and effectively complete assignments without navigating switching apps. The touch screen will allow my students to be able to complete assignments on a screen using touch, a much more effective tool for him than writing or typing. The added device will also allow him to use his talking iPad strictly to communicate with peers. This is incredible important as children with Pompe statistically have higher rates of depression because their disease limited their ability to full engage with their peer.
The addition of this device will change the accessibility for online learning for my student. It's an essential piece of equipment will ensure that they can access online learning even when he is receiving infusion therapy at the hospital, something that he currently unable to do with the deceives that he has.
This student depends on technology to navigate independent in the world. The purchase of this surface will not only provide him with essential learning equipment, but it will also give him independence that he deserves.
