I'm a teacher in a Title I school, in an area where my kids face a lot of obstacles at home and at school. Many of my students are English language learners. A majority of my students also receive free or reduced-price lunch.
I call my mom and dad on my way to school every day, and my mom always ends our call by saying, "Okay, love those kids today!" I take this to heart because I know that my students come into my classroom with many needs and worries on their minds.
My goal every day is to give them to freedom to just be kids when they are in my room.
My students are fun-loving, gregarious, kind and curious. Not a day goes by that one of my students doesn't manage to blow me away with some new creative idea or hilarious commentary on a lesson. I want the absolute best for my students and I am hoping that I can achieve that goal in part by posting projects here on DonorsChoose.org.
If there's one thing that sitting in professional development meetings has taught me, it's that sitting in a chair all day long stinks! My kids are well aware of this fact, and often seek out more comfortable options in my room. Typically, this means kids stretched out on the carpet or sitting along one of our walls.
I love giving my students the freedom to find workspaces that work for them, and it would be wonderful if I could improve their classroom environment even more by providing these Surf Lap Desks.
Please help me make my classroom an inviting, work-conducive, and comfortable place for kids to be great learners!
