My students need flexible seating options. While I have collected many different types of seating over the years, I believe this one will be helpful for those who enjoy sitting up on the rug.
I am currently teaching first grade. My students are energetic, inquisitive, caring, amusing, and they are problem-solvers. My students love to play as they learn, and I am working hard at creating a safe environment for students to feel free to make mistakes and learn from them in order to enhance their learning schema. Students learn to interact appropriately socially and learn tolerance of others when working on such skills. Students know that as long as they try their best, there's no failure. Students in my classroom are hard workers that encourage one another and continue to impress me as they excel. My students are creative and enjoy rhythm and music too. I want students to feel comfortable and safe in their classroom because their social/emotional health is important in order to see academic growth. Understanding one another and building tolerance will allow these students to grow.
My Project
I have had many different seating options for students over the years, and this product looks like a great one for those students that need to be seated on the ground and yet still sit up. Low tables are something I've always wanted to try; however, they can be a tripping hazard for others in the, room and this would solve that dilemma.
Students can feel grounded while they work and still sit with a supported core.
The supportive surfer desks will allow students to sit up and have a table surface to work on. The Surf Portable Lap Desk will allow a surface for students to sit on the floor to work without creating a hazard for others walking throughout the classroom. I have not felt comfortable lowering a table due to the tripping hazard factor; however, this product will allow me to meet the needs of more students.
I believe that flexible seating has allowed my students voice and choice of how they feel they can best work. I fell this allows students to work more comfortably, and, therefore; there are less behavioral needs or challenges throughout our daily routine also.
