My Second Graders are full of life, curiosity, and love of learning! We work hard on building character, developing stamina and grit, and supporting each other as friends who build each other up and encourage one another. Each morning the children recite a class pledge they created to spur each other on to greatness by being respectful, responsible learners, who accept challenges and aren't afraid to fail if they're trying. We are also working diligently to fill math and reading gaps caused by COVID-impacted learning. We call ourselves the Superstars!
These years of schooling through a pandemic have affected some of these young children with things like anxiety related to sickness/managing online and in-person school, and even hunger, which in turn, affect their ability to focus.
Their little bodies and brains are growing, and I want to be sure to provide them with all they need to receive an excellent education in the best learning environment possible. That’s why I am so excited about the potential of what that could look like thanks to DonorsChoose! They aren't without struggles, but I have high hopes of still ensuring shining futures for these Superstars!
My Project
COVID-19 has had an impact on my young students socially-emotionally, academically, as well as on their basic needs, such as food. I am committed to helping my students overcome the negative effects of the pandemic.
I have chosen various items that will encourage students to remain engaged in learning while managing their distractibility, whether that is related to anxiety, hunger, or brain chemistry.
In addition, I have requested some interactive phonics materials and write & wipe math sleeves to help me zoom in on specific gaps left in their learning.
