In an urban school of 1,300+ students, where 63% are economically disadvantaged and 78% are considered high needs, the arts are an absolutely essential creative outlet. If I could bring you into my classroom, you would be so impressed with the hard work, compassion, and creativity they demonstrate each day.
My curious, energetic, and passionate students love music, and they deserve an opportunity to explore music with quality equipment and materials.
No matter the challenge, my students rise to the occasion and do so with a smile and a positive attitude.
My Project
We are lucky to have a strong collection of sheet music, scores, and method books to support our students, but there are some gaps in our collection. For example, we do not currently have enough beginning method books to serve all of our beginning band students this year. These books are an important resource for our students, particularly at home during remote learning, but they do, eventually, wear out from years of use.
With these new music books, students will have access to the learning materials and repertoire that they need to grow as musicians and performers.
Chamber music - solos, duets, trios, etc. - is an important part of the band program, as it gives students a chance to collaborate in small groups. We do not currently have any chamber music repertoire that is written specifically for saxophones, so the books requested here will help provide such materials to our student saxophonists.
