“TELL ME AND I FORGET. TEACH ME AND I REMEMBER. INVOLVE ME AND I LEARN.” –BENJAMIN FRANKLIN
My students are excited and passionate about learning with creativity always shining through.
We create a classroom community that is loving, kind and fun, which has turned us into a family. Our classroom is inclusive and accommodating for all students and people who join us.
My students are avid readers who love diving into a good book and love to explore new books. As first graders, it is vital that they have plenty of engaging books that will keep them excited about reading. Our school population is 75% Hispanic or Latino and 50% English Learners, with over 80% of our students coming from low-income homes.
My Project
As emerging readers, my students are going to need fun and engaging books at their reading levels. The only way they can learn how to read is to read! These books will help me begin to build my 1st grade library. The book bins will help my students keep their books organized for reading time.
In my first grade classroom, I will be implementing Daily 5, which is a literacy framework that instills behaviors of independence, creates a classroom of highly engaged readers, writers, and learners, and provides teachers with time and structure to meet diverse student needs.
Daily Five reading centers require students to have on-level books that they can read independently. Students love books that are engaging with fun pictures, these types of books will also allow my students to read independently.
