This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is located in the city of Chicago; most of the students are economically disadvantaged. Students have experienced trauma, poverty, and academic struggles. Every day, students are faced with challenges both outside of and within the classroom.
Despite the challenges my students face, they come into my classroom everyday ready to learn and grow in their knowledge of mathematics.
Their desire to learn motivates me everyday and pushes me to grow as a teacher. Together we strive for academic growth and success.
My Project
These magazines will enhance the learning of my students in the classroom. Scholastic Math will allow my students to apply math concepts to real world situations. As important, they will be engaged in reading and improving their literacy skills. Many of my students are struggling readers; the best way to increase reading ability is to read more.
In our classroom, students write goals for themselves.
When a student sets a goal to become a better reader, that student deserves my every effort to support his or her reaching that goal.
This project will help enrich their experiences with the printed word and help students reach their goals.
