My students need a bookshelf to display books we have been reading and to share their favorites, book bags to borrow books from the class, and a horseshoe table with stools to have small groups!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a very diverse community with a wide range of learners. I have students from all different walks of life stepping into my 3rd grade classroom on August 30th. Each student and family is so unique and comes with different life experiences that make the classroom community feel complete.
My students thrive with the opportunity to participate in an arts-integrated curriculum.
They are growing to be well-rounded, inquisitive learners who are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to succeed in their future. Even though I am the teacher, they are teaching me along the way.
My Project
This year is my first year teaching after completing a year of student-teaching. When I walked into my new classroom, I was surprised to find there was no table for small group work and no white board for whole lessons! There are no tables available in the building for my classroom. My students need a table and stools to be able to conference with me and to have small group reading, writing, and math groups.
Literacy is a huge focus in my classroom and I want all of my students to have equal access to books and knowledge.
Not all students have a flood of books in their lives or the opportunity to visit the library and so my goal is to provide them with a wealth of books in the classroom. Having book bags allows them to take books from the classroom library safely. It allows all learners to be able to read in any environment and to hold onto books they aren't ready to return to my library yet.
A book shelf display allows me to put up books we have read in class for students to look at and borrow during independent reading. It also allows me to display books students have written recommendations for so that their peers may read them and fall in love with the stories as well.
