Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a diverse inner-city elementary school serving preschool through 5th-grade students. Our students love to discover new things, participate in hands-on activities, and learn more about their ever-expanding world! All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch and many struggles academically due to being behind in grade-level skills.

Our students inspire us every day with their curiosity and excitement for school!

I love our K-5 students very much, and I want to do all that I can to support their learning! I hope to instill a lifelong love of reading and learning by creating educational experiences that capture their attention, spark their imaginations, and promote a deeper understanding of the world around them.

My Project

Being an educator or student during a pandemic isn't easy. COVID-19 has caused a lot of stress, anxiety, and learning loss.

The items in my project will help support student engagement and learning.

One of my goals has been to create a curriculum room full of hands-on and engaging materials for our school's K-5 teachers to borrow. I believe in the importance of students having access to engaging, hands-on materials to promote student interest and academic success.

Over the years, I've collected a lot of great educational materials for math, reading, and science. The bookcase and Sterilite bins would be used to organize these educational materials to make it easier for our K-5 teachers to access and borrow.

My project also includes materials for bulletin boards. Students love decorated bulletin boards, especially when they display their work!

My project also includes replacement ink for a printer to enable teachers and staff to print in color.

My project also includes a USB C adapter hub, so I can connect my laptop to a big screen monitor to use so others can easily see what is on my computer.

There are also privacy boards for students to use when they need an enclosed space to eliminate distractions and improve focus. We have many students who are struggling to adjust to in-person learning. These privacy boards will support their social-emotional needs.

Finally, there is a class set of dry erase boards which students love using to show their work and be actively engaged in learning.
