Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
These middle and high school students are amazing pupils who will all be first-generation college students. They come from all over our city and have an unbelievable amount of potential. Together, we come from diverse backgrounds but all share the common goal of graduating from high school, going to college, and implementing change in our world!
Furthermore, our programs emphasize students helping students model and we work heavily to have our students work in teams to support each other's learning!
My Project
I support students of varied cultural and linguistic backgrounds and ensuring that they have equitable access to quality nonfiction texts is essential to their academic success. My goal is to create a culture of reading within the science classroom, however, I need access to high-interest science texts that I can keep within my room.
My goal is to build a classroom library stocked with science texts to support the growth of scientifically literate student body.
As students become comfortable with reading non-fiction texts of their choice, they will be better equipped to become global citizens who can make informed decisions about socio-scientific issues in their communities.
