Support Young African American STEM Scientists in North Memphis!
My students need pencils, pens, erasers, markers, coloring pencils, STEM science motivation materials, whiteboard markers, notebook paper and other materials.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My scholars are very creative, thoughtful and extremely inquisitive! They learn very well from hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day asking me new questions, ready to try new experiments, and try their absolute best to grow - both academically and personally. Truly, they are my daily inspiration!
Many scholars in my classroom contact me at night or come in the next day saying they had difficulty completing their practice and homework assignments at home because of the lack of supplies and resources.
As a result, I often use my planning periods, lunch, recess, after school time, and even some Saturdays to meet with students with supplies so that their work can be completed. Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning and the data proves that! We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, scientific research opportunities, group work, experiments, character growth, and differentiated learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! They are truly an incredible group, and I am so blessed and thankful to have a new group of scientific learners this upcoming year!
My Project
I love colorful, bright, and interactive classrooms. This make the environment more conducive for learning. The bean bags will be used to add a little touch to their learning environment. I want them to be as comfortable as possible! I often use whiteboards in my daily lessons as a method to gather real time data, so the classroom set of dry erase markers will be helpful in making sure all students will have the materials they need to answer questions. The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work with others. What becomes a problem is the fact that the markers never seem to last due to consistent usage. The pencils, pens, markers, construction paper, and coloring pencils will be used so that my scholars can keep a sufficient Science interactive notebook all year. This notebook will avoid students from having to carry multiple binders and folders and allow them to show their creativity, scientific writing skills, research ideas, prototype designs, daily notes, and more.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to increase student engagement, you will ultimately help to increase their scientific academic achievement that will help propel them into the future.
Students will be able to concentrate on the academic material at hand, and not whether if we have the materials or if they are going to work or not. They will be able to succeed in more STEM related activities, increase their scientific writing and research skills, boost their critical thinking, and spark their creativity. All this will help close the STEM achievement gap in minorities and at the same time, make learning the sciences more interesting and fun!
