Mrs. Moskalev from Brooklyn NY is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need graphing calculators to improve their math skills.

I am a special ed/math teacher who teaches students with special needs in ninth and tenth grade. My students are curious, thoughtful, and wonderful people with tons of opportunities available for them. Many of them come from a disadvantaged background and face many issues everyday.
Most of my students get special education services and/or ELL (English language learner) services.
My students come from different cultural and educational backgrounds. Although, English language is an obstacle for some of my students, all of them have various deficiencies in mathematics.
My students struggle with math, mostly algebra concepts, such as factoring, applying laws of exponents, solving quadratic equations, simplifying radicals, and graphing functions. My students are inquisitive and hardworking, but lack the necessary technology to succeed. Graphing calculators are a basic necessity for them. Graphing calculators are not just important for state exams, but they allow students to see math in a way that is not otherwise accessible. Most of my students cannot afford graphing calculators, and therefore cannot achieve the same fluency as other students from more affluent backgrounds. So, despite their motivation and desire to learn, they are at a disadvantage to these other students.
My students are working really hard and preparing to take the June Algebra Regents.
Many of my students cannot afford calculators and my school has little funding to buy more. The 23 calculators that we have, we share between three math teachers. This means that the access to calculators for my students is limited. Using graphing calculators every day in class will improve their computational skills and help my students with graphing functions, and in turn will improve their chances to pass the exam.
