My 3 year old students with autism are adorably smart, energetic, funny, and sensitive. They have a lot to say, but struggle with communication. They are learning how to request with pictures to tell us what they want and need. Our students acquire skills through play, and have made tremendous progress on their social, sensory, and cognitive goals.
Our objective with such young children with autism, is to provide a supportive learning environment that will give them the foundation to acquire the skills they need to be successful learners.
My Project
We would like to send families the toys and materials they need to work with their child.
Since our preschool classroom closed due to Covid-19, my student's parents have become their child's teacher.
Families are now in a position where they are the ones who will need to be working with their child directly, as we guide parents on how to work on their child's goals. However, if parents don't have the materials at home, this will not be possible.
My students need hands-on instruction, which is very difficult to achieve over a computer screen. Toys and materials that you donate, will allow parents to implement the strategies and instruction that we model for them over the screen. Any help you can give us, will go a long way in making sure our students are able to keep learning until they can get back into the classroom.
