This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are located in the beautiful Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia, PA. Our school is culturally, economically and racially diverse. At our school, we practice the 5 rules for conduct: be respectful, responsible, peaceful and careful, problem solver and learner. Through these 5 rules, we learn to be better citizens within our community. This year, I am teaching our students to be better citizens in our world and to have cultural sensitivity when we learn and listen about the sounds from around the world.
My Project
Our students are making fantastic progress on the path to reading and writing music! We are very fortunate to have keyboard percussion instruments; however, we do not have any mallets for them. If we had mallets, we could give pitched instruments to the entire class. This would greatly benefit all students, but especially K-3, to become musically literate. Additionally, we have been given an exciting opportunity to build our own keyboard lab for our older students! However, in order to set up all our new instruments, we need a few extension cords to plug them in and make them work.
