Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students receive special education services and are part of an inclusive Preschool Collaborative Class (PCC). Some of the students' disabilities include developmental delay, autism and speech & language impairment. My students come from low income households and receive free school meals. These students have a vast potential and are eager to learn. They learn through observing and interacting with their typical developing peers as well as by providing them with learning opportunities and experiences to gain the skills necessary for success in their upcoming Instructional years. I believe in early intervention and providing them with the tools necessary to succeed.
My Project
Students with special needs require visual and sensory support to increase their learning. They will be able to share their creativity by using the sensory foam paint. The sensory disk will help our fidgety friends to relax while sitting on the carpet during our circle time. Students will also increase their cognitive skills by matching different shapes with the magnetic boards. Students will work on fine motor skills and practice tracing their name using the erasable pouches. The moods and emotions mirrors will aid in developing the students social emotional skills by being able to identify and recognize their feelings.
