My Project

I am currently a teacher in San Lorenzo. At this school, I have experienced the magic and beauty of reading! Built into the daily schedule is a hour- long Independent Reading time for students to read a book of their choice. It is truly magical to watch 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders fall in love with reading, build connections with peers through shared reading interests and ultimately see them discover their passions. At our school, we read from Nancie Atwell’s text, the Reading Zone, and it talks about the importance of creating the conditions for students to get the “reading zone” where they experience the story and fully immerse themselves in what they read. In doing that, we provide “comfortable items” for our readers to get in that zone. However, due to the recent storms in California, our building flooded and water damaged our comfy items, which required us to throw them away. We need your help in getting these comfy items back!
