Celebrate Black Teachers and Students
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders who enjoy reading and are curious about the word around them. Many of these students come from low income families and don't have opportunities to access books outside of school.
Several of my students have told me, "I can't read my teachers books but I can read yours." "I love these books!" "Can I read with you today?" These students are enthusiastic learners who enjoy reading a good book that grabs their attention.
My Project
Continuing to practice reading will help develop my students literacy skills. By having appropriate leveled texts, students will be able to practice using their reading strategies and increase their self-confidence.
Receiving books at home will help motivate and excite my students to continue to read! Many of my students do not have computer access to resources that they need during the stay at home order.
Their daily routine has changed and I want to give them access to some normalcy. The books in my project will be mailed directly to my students so they can enjoy reading while at home.
