Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I co-teach a Bilingual 1st Grade class in Providence, RI. Our school serves students from an urban low socioeconomic background. The class is composed of twenty six students including several with special needs. There is a mixture of different learning styles and academic levels in our class.
Our students love writing about family events and experiences!
Having tools to help with spelling, vocabulary, and word recognition would be ideal to support independence. Personal dictionaries are designed to support reading and writing skills. Please help our students be successful in school!
My Project
Our students work hard developing writing skills to meet literacy standards. These personal dictionaries are a great writing resource. They have initial and high-frequency word lists. They also have blank lines for new words. My students would be able to create their own word bank while working on their favorite personal stories.
Students in grade 1 are expected to produce and develop clear and coherent writing.
I would love for them to have tools to support their success. These versatile books would help strengthen spelling, word recognition, vocabulary, reading and writing skills. In addition, students would have more confidence when working independently.
