This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I am the founding Music Teacher at the high school where I teach, and this year, students will be able to take Music Technology, Advanced Music Theory, and Band. Each of these year-long courses features opportunities for students to create, perform, and respond to music. My students are excited to learn about music - connecting instruction to the music they know and love, as well as more unfamiliar styles. They perform in two concerts during the school year, showcasing their musical knowledge and skills. As the thriving music department is currently expanding our course offerings for 2018-2019, we have additional equipment and supply needs. Thank you so much for your generosity in support of music instruction for my students!

My Project

My classroom currently has approximately 20 digital keyboards which are used in each of the music classes that I teach. However, some of my classes are larger than 20 students. The purchase of additional keyboards will allow each student to play his or her own keyboard for the duration of the class period. This is especially important for my Advanced Music Theory class (a college-level class) and for my Music Technology class, which relies on keyboards that are used to compose music. Additionally, some of the existing keyboards I have are over 10 years old, so these resources critical for music instruction will need to be renewed. I am fortunate to work in a school where music teaching and learning flourishes; these keyboards will benefit students for years to come!
