My current audio center offers only a CD player with no headphones. My students are all children of our military service members. They deserve better than a broken audio player playing the same stories. Won't you help me instill life long love of reading by giving them the opportunity to hear MORE!
My students come from everywhere!
They are the children of our service men and women. As a Navy wife and mom it is my pleasure to give back to these wonderful people. I teach in a public school whose sole student population comes from our local base. School is their stable place where they come and know what to expect. For many of my students their parents deploy throughout the year. Our school is a place for them to connect with other children who share their situation. It is my desire to present them an opportunity to fall in love with learning. Studies show that listening to reading can improve listening and communication skills, increase vocabulary, and motivate children to read. My own children have grown up and are now serving in the military. I am grateful for the teachers that were in their life who helped them become the successful people they are today. Won't you help me make a difference in my students' lives?
My Project
The listening center and supplemental materials I have chosen will allow a group of students to listen to a story of practice a certain skill. Studies show that listening to reading can help children learn proper pronunciation of words, get motivated to read, improve listening and comprehensions kills, and increase vocabulary. In addition, listening to reading can help bridge the gap by allowing a child to "read along" with a challenging story. My total classroom allotment is far less than what the total is for this request. Each year I try to save enough to get a listening center, but I wind up needing to spend it on immediate needs of my students.
I am in my sixth year of teaching.
I have needed a good listening center each and every year. Unfortunately, their pricing keeps them out of my reach. I sadly watch my students get bored listening to the same Cd's on my broken down audio box. They shy away from wanting to go to my listening center. I am convinced their reading will improve if I can upgrade my listening center. We are all indebted to these military families. They do so much for our freedom. Won't you help me give back to them?
