This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Students that attend our school are, for the most part, economically disadvantaged. They are of African American and Hispanic descent. These students love band but are unable to purchase or rent their own instrument. The few instruments the school own are shared among the band students. It would be great if all the students had an instrument to take home to practice with. We are looking for new or used instruments. They could learn so much more if they had an instrument to play and practice on.
Just having the choice to play a flute, clarinet, trumpet, or a saxophone would give our students more options and an opportunity to learn the instrument of their choice.
Now, you have to play what's left, if anything is left to play.
My Project
Having a clarinet and flute will help students be able to practice in class and at home. They will have the chance to experience what it feels like to have their own clarinet and flute and not have to share with another student. Just having a clarinet and flute to practice on will increase their chances of being successful in band. This could lead to other opportunities in high school, college, or a career in music. Students who have their own instrument or access to one, do better in class than those without one. Not only will it help those students who will receive a clarinet or a flute but those who are sharing as well.
