Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
While my school is labeled as "moderate poverty," 90-100% of the students in the bilingual program are on the free/reduced price lunch program yearly.
No matter their lives at home, my students come to my class with smiles on their faces, eager to see what learning I have on the agenda for the day.
Our students are eager to learn and eager to please. We are blessed with the opportunity to help our students grow the gift of two languages that they have. This project will help to provide materials that they need for instruction. They deserve it!
My Project
This project targets basic supplies that will help my students to begin the year successfully. My goal is to have student desks ready for learning when my students step into the classroom for the first time at Back to School Night.
I want to ensure that my students' first step into my classroom ignites a sense of awe and excitement with their learning... what better way to do this than to have my students step into a classroom with their desks already supplied with their most important learning tools!
In addition to a binder already supplied with their most basic learning tools, I also intend to provide students with a reading book and their compositions books that we will use throughout the year as well. As a parent myself, I am fully aware of the cost of required school supplies every year. For students whose families qualify for free and reduced-price lunch programs, this cost can be too much for their families. In working to build trust with families, I want to them to see that I understand my role in caring for their students' needs and would like to help to ease their financial stress. I would like to alleviate this stress to parents by making their year as easy as possible for them and their students. Students only need to come to learn, and you and I together can do the rest!
