Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach the best 7th grade civics students at a museums magnet school, and it is my goal to make them into productive and active citizens of the 21st century.

My students attend a Title I school where 93% of students are receiving free or reduced-priced lunch.

Our school is located in one of our city's oldest neighborhoods. We offer a humanities-based museums magnet program throughout the school, and we are working hard on exposing students to our community's cultural institutions and local museums and using those resources to increase our reading comprehension, technology, and presentation skills.

My Project

My students are in a class that has an end of course exam, so I spend all year making sure that they keep their materials and classwork in my class nicely organized. Therefore, I need some materials to help me achieve this goal.

The biggest need I have is for spiral, one-subject notebooks (which students use to keep all their notes in order) so they can have a "reference-type" book that can be used to review for the exam at the end of the school year.

This system also requires a lot of glue sticks, colorful pens, pencil pouches, and colored paper to make the information easy for students to study. The grouping pencils I need will help me with classroom management, while the laminating pouches would be used for station activities I create where students work in groups to solve scenarios. They each receive laminated cards with these scenarios, which helps them last through the six classes I have, and lets me reuse them the next school year.

I would also like some basic sanitation supplies, like hand sanitizer, antibacterial wipes, and paper towels so that we can keep our classroom and class set of tablets clean.
