My students are a diverse group of learners. I have some students with language deficits, social-emotional needs, as well as autism. The kids come from families effected by generational poverty. The community our school serves is over 80% free or reduced lunch. Despite all the varying exceptionalities in my classroom, my students come eager to learn everyday! They constantly tell me funny stories about their pets or siblings. I want them to be able to keep that flare in education.
My Project
Because my students come from generational poverty, they don’t always come to school prepared to learn. I want to make sure they have what they will need in order to be successful. By having such materials as glue sticks, crayons, dry-erase markers, my students will have what they need to create class books, finish a writing prompt, complete a cut and paste sorting activity, and even use markers with our personal white boards during a benchmark lesson for a quick check in understanding what they have learned. This way, students will value their education because they will have the materials needed in order to be successful in learning!
